Friday’s whiskey tour and tasting was the first in a series of premium liquor experiences presented by Quirky Events. Whipper Snapper is a small-batch urban distillery located in East Perth. They produce Australia’s first moonshine and are trend-setters in local whiskey production.
Upon arrival at the distillery, guests were greeted by Barry who presented them with a Crazy Apple Jack; a cocktail containing a refreshing mix of Crazy Uncle Moonshine and cold pressed apple juice. Everyone then enjoyed a pre-tour beer and met the other tour participants.
Barry, the distillery operator and our guide for the night, showed everyone around the distillery. We were given a tour of the machinery and the process of milling and fermenting the grains, before being shown the still and given a sample of Crazy Uncle Moonshine, their signature product.
Barry then took us to view the Southern American White Oak barrels where the spirit matures and develops its unique flavour. This was followed by tastings of the barrel-aged moonshine and Upshot Whiskey.
The next stop on the tour was the bottling room where we were shown how the bottles are labelled and capped. This was followed by a quick Q&A session.
After the tour concluded, guests who wished to could sample further products in the tasting room. This included Babooshka American Style Barleywine and whiskey honey. Bottles were available for purchase to take home and enjoy.
The night then ended with a few casual beers and some cheese and meat platters for everyone to enjoy.
